Ingredients

  • For Bread Pudding

  • Sweet butter, ½ cup

  • Vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon

  • Milk, 1/2 quart

  • Raisins, 1/2 cup

  • Cinnamon, 1/2 tablespoon

  • Nutmeg, ¼ teaspoon

  • Salt, 1 pinch

  • Bourbon, 1 tablespoon

  • Eggs, 6 (finely beaten)

  • Sugar, 1 1/4 cups

  • Light brown sugar, 1/2 cup

  • Loaf French bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes, 18 oz

  • Apple (peeled and cubed), ¼ cup

  • Half & half, 1/2 quart

  • Vanilla ice cream, 4 scoops

  • For Sweet Cream Sauce

  • Heavy cream, 2 cups

  • Sugar, 1 1/2 cups

  • Egg yolks, 8

  • Vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon

  • For Whiskey Sauce

  • Sweet Cream Sauce, 2 cups

  • Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey, 3 tablespoons

Directions

  • For Bread Pudding
  • Add sugar and light brown sugar to a mixing bowl. Whisk to combine. Divide into two equal portions.
  • In another bowl, combine cinnamon, vanilla extract, salt, bourbon, and half of the sugar mixture.
  • Pour the milk, half and half, sweet butter, and remaining sugar into a saucepan.
  • When the mixture comes to a boil, add the finely beaten eggs and diced apple.
  • Once the liquids have completely absorbed the bread cubes, turn off the heat and remove from the heat. Let the cubes sit for three to four minutes.
  • Prepare a baking dish by greasing it with butter. Put the bread mixture inside. Place it in the oven for 45 minutes at 375°F.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes after removing from the oven. Top with vanilla ice cream before serving.
  • For Sweet Cream Sauce
  • Pour heavy cream into a small saucepan along with sugar. Set the heat to medium-low. While constantly stirring, let the mixture come to a boil.
  • In a large bowl, mix the egg yolks with the remaining sugar and vanilla extract. Combine well.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the simmering cream mixture and egg yolk mixture. Pour the mixture into a double boiler and stir for 8 to 12 minutes. Be sure to stir continuously.
  • Strain with a strainer after removing from heat. Leave the sweet cream sauce to cool.
  • For Whiskey Sauce
  • Pour 2 cups of the cooled sweet cream sauce into a mixing bowl.
  • Add 3 tablespoons of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey and whip it with a beater.
  • When serving, top the whiskey sauce with the vanilla ice cream and place it in the refrigerator.
